A Night of Aswat with Salman Al Ammari - ليلة أصوات مع سلمان العماري

This April, we celebrate the art of Ṣawt, a musical form that emerged in the mid-19th century and continues to captivate audiences to this day. On 13 April, the Sheikh Jaber Al Ali Concert Hall will host “A Night of Aswat with Salman Al Ammari”. The concert will take us on an enchanting journey through some of the most celebrated traditional Ṣawt melodies from Kuwait and Bahrain, alongside a selection of modernised Ṣawt pieces that gained prominence in the 1960s. The evening will feature a captivating performance by the choir and veteran singer Salman Al Ammari, accompanied by a musical ensemble under the direction of Maestro Dr Khaled Noori.

The art of Ṣawt is distinguished by its rich poetic expressions, featuring sung poetry such as and classical Arabic poetry, as well as distinct rhythmic patterns like Shami, Arabi, and Khayali. Instrumentation plays a vital role in defining the unique character of this art, with the oud and mirwas standing out as key instruments. Other essential elements include sharbaka (rhythmic clapping) and zafan (a dignified dance), all of which contribute to the enduring popularity of Ṣawt across the region. These elements have solidified its place in Kuwaiti musical heritage, distinguishing it from other Arabic music types.

في أبريل المقبل نحتفي بأغاني الأصوات التي تحتلفي أبريل المقبل نحتفي بأغاني الأصوات التي تحتل مكانة كبيرة في وجدان الكويتيين، هذا الفن «الصوت» الذي ظهر في منتصف القرن التاسع عشر ما زالت شعبيته قائمة بين المستمعين حتى اليوم، حيث تستضيف قاعة الشيخ جابر العلي الموسيقية في 13 أبريل حفل «ليلة أصوات مع سلمان العماري»، الذي يصحبنا في جولة بين أشهر الأصوات التقليدية في الكويت والبحرين، بجانب مجموعة من الأصوات الحديثة الكويتية التي برزت في الستينيات وعرفت باسم «الأصوات المطورة»، نستمتع بها بأداء الكورال والفنان القدير سلمان العماري مع الفرقة الموسيقية بقيادة المايسترو د. خالد نوري.

يُميز فن الصوت الأشعار المُغناة ومنها الشعر العربي الفصيح، وأيضًا الضروب والأوزان المحددة مثل الشامي والعربي والخيالي. كما تمثل الآلات الموسيقية عنصرًا مهمًا في تميز هذا الفن وتفرده عن بقية الفنون الشعبية، أبرزها آلتي العود والمرواس، بالإضافة إلى عناصر أخرى مثل الشربكة (التصفيق) والزفان (الرقص الوقور). وقد وضعت جميع هذه العناصر «فن الصوت» ضمن أكثر الفنون شعبية وانتشارًا في المنطقة، كما صنعت هوية وطنية لفن الأصوات الكويتي وميزته عن الفنون العربية الأخرى.
